Just because I'm in a High Fidelityesque list-making mood, I shall list ten of my favorite current comics, I hope you check them out. Please feel free to comment with your own. These are in no particular order, my order of preference generally changes on how good the last issue was. Some need no explanation, others, I felt like commenting. You'll notice 5 of them are by Brits, and one is American but about Brits. Just thought that was kinda telling.
Queen & Country
Its unbelievable how much I enjoy this series. Its British secret agents without the gadgets of Bond. It brings the whole world of espionage to life more realistically than any other popular medium I've seen. And with a different artist on every single arc, its always fresh.
Hellboy
X-Statix
Catwoman
The new film noir-ish version by Ed Brubaker (coincidentally, author of one of my favorite Elseworld stories;
Gotham Noir) is amazing, which I, personally, think is a remarkable achievement for any DC book that exists within the "official" DC Universe.
Savage Dragon
Its been far better than it currently is, but this series has always been very much like the tide, ebbing and flowing, mediocre and great. I know it'll come out on top again soon, as its always done before, and regardless, its always a fun read.
Tom Strong
I love the Tom Strong books, they feel like classics, but they're brand new, its entertaining and timeless.
Jack Staff
I picked up the first of the new colour Image issues and fell in love with Paul Grist's art and his innovative storytelling, moving the plot forward through a myriad of short stories from other characters perspectives and bringing it all together in the end. Only 2 issues of the Image series are out to date, and I couldn't wait for more, so I have since picked up all but one ellusive issue of the first series of Jack Staff, and remain in awe.
The Filth
Rob has told me how good this was for so long I couldn't wait anymore, at a con I finally picked up all this issues for fairly cheap, and have continued to get it, I read the first 9 issues in one night, it was unbelievable. And issue 11 is the best of the series. There's only two issues to go, and the possibility that the final ones will be better than #11 makes me orgasmic at the thought of it.
New X-Men
The best X-Men has been since the 60s as far as I'm concerned. I used to love the Jim Lee/Chris Claremont ones, and while I still appreciate that art... fuck, I don't know how I could read Claremont's dialogue.
Planetary
I just have to say, that Planetary/Batman is possibly the best inter-company crossover ever.
